Microsoft and Activision have revealed plans to release a limited edition Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 themed Xbox 360 alongside the multiplatform game's launch on November 10.

Unveiled at a Modern Warfare 2 preview event in Los Angeles, the console will sport an exclusive design inspired by the Infinity Ward developed shooter, a 250GB hard drive, two wireless controllers, a headset and a standard edition of the title.

It will be sold in the US, Canada, Europe, the Middle East, Mexico, Colombia, Chile, Australia and New Zealand. The bundle will retail for an estimated price of $399, but hasn’t been priced outside of the US.

“It is thrilling to bring the exclusive Modern Warfare 2-inspired Xbox 360 console to Call Of Duty fans,” said Albert Penello, senior director of global marketing for Xbox 360. “These fans deserve the biggest Xbox 360 console ever, and we’re delivering with more storage space than ever before and freedom to enjoy all their favourite games and downloadable game add-ons, including the first two Modern Warfare 2 maps that will be available first on Xbox Live.”

Late last month Microsoft announced a series of Xbox 360 price adjustments and plans to phase out the 60GB Xbox 360 Pro model. While the company has not announced plans for the general release of a new SKU, a regular 250GB Xbox 360 could yet be on the way. In August a listing for a 250GB Xbox 360 bundled with Forza Motorsport 3 appeared on Amazon Germany’s website before quickly being pulled. Microsoft has said that the 250GB hard drive featured in the Modern Warfare 2 bundle “is not being sold separately”.

Expected to be one of the bestselling games of the year, Modern Warfare 2 will also be released on PS3 and PC.

The 120GB hard drive sells for $150, which works out to $1.25 per GB.

At those rates, a standalone 250GB drive would cost $315.

Given just how much i had to fork out, just for a poxy Wi-Fi adapter and also a Battery charging kit. I shudder to think just how much MS would or indeed will charge for a stand alone 250Gb HDD. and yet they (and some fanboys )keep banging the: '360 is far better VFM Drum'

So what madness is behind not selling the 250gb drive as a standalone? Surely it'll be a huge money spinner for Microsoft. I wonder if they will discontinue the exist 60gb and 120gb next year sometime? GIving Activision their exclusive for the time being.

Anyone can buy a couple allan keys and put a new 2.5" drive in their 360 external case mount. 10 minutes of research should be enough time to figure it out. The best thing about this is Microsoft will have to update the legitimate firmware to allow up to 250gb unless they do something strange. Up until now even if you had a 500gb drive the box would only recognise 120gb (Unless you have cracked firmware).
