Microsoft has said that it’s no longer imposing file size restrictions on Xbox Live Arcade games.

In the early days of XBLA game downloads couldn’t exceed 50MB of data, a limit later relaxed to 150MB. Such restrictions no longer exist however, with the likes of Shadow Complex clocking in at nearly 1GB and Command & Conquer 3 Commander's Challenge double that size.

Speaking to IGN, Scott Austin, Xbox Live’s director of digitally distributed games, said that file size restrictions were no longer being imposed by Microsoft, but that 2GB is a technical limitation of the system being used. A dfferent file structure is used on Xbox Live Marketplace, for example, which houses larger Games on Demand.

If you want to upgrade your HDD, have a look at this:

120gb XBOX HDD £89.99 lowest price or 500gb SATA drive £33.00 lowest price. Hmmm.

Microsoft, HDDs all-round and as standard. Surely this is the only way forward. Come on, its verging on 2010 and you are selling 200GB HDDs as though that's actually still considered a huge HDD.

Do you want people to pay to download content and take advantages of the 360's full potential? Yes? Then why the hell are you still selling the Arcade model and charging so much for a sodding mediocre in size HDD?!

This is awesome news, but it would be even more awesome if us 'early' adopters (you know, the ones who bought a 360 in the first three years) had an affordable and appropriately fair way to upgrade your HDDs to something that can actually handle all this good stuff! Cut the price of the 120gig already!

Does this matter while the HDD price remains prohibitively expensive?

All of this makes it even more unbelievable that they are persisting with the Arcade model.
