Hit Syfy show Battlestar Galactica is set to receive the MMO treatment by browser-based developer Bigpoint.

The series adaptation will be making its way to browsers “this fall” and has been built on Unity’s engine, which was also used to make Cartoon Network’s free MMO FusionFall.

"Battlestar Galactica is a supremely gameable intellectual property, with compelling character classes, a fantastic array of ships and weaponry, multiple worlds, and a dramatic storyline," said Universal’s VP & GM of digital platforms, Bill Kispert.

"We are excited to work with Bigpoint - and our partners at Universal Cable Productions and Syfy - to bring an epic, accessible, and 'always on' BSG experience to fans of the franchise and online gamers alike."

Heiko Hubertz, Bigpoint CEO, added: "Cooperation between Bigpoint and NBC Universal is a very important strategic step for us. Battlestar Galactica has a huge and passionate fan base. We are proud to be able to publish such an internationally famous title as one of our online games. For the first time ever, we're relying completely on Unity in order to offer our users fantastic game graphics right in their browsers."

I'll play it only if I can become some sort of horny messiah whose ultimate purpose is to shag all the female characters in the past, present and future of the human race.

I'll play it but only if there is the possibility of finding Earth, discovering it's the wrong Earth, then finding another planet that turns out to be Earth and realising I'm the archaeological progenitor of the modern human species. Damn, that final season was 22 hours of my life that I'll never get back.

So... if you know so well what you don't like, how would you have written it differently?

That's easy, throw in some stuff about a time travelling island, drag it out for at least three seasons past anybody actually caring, and then have it that they are all stuck in purgatory.

I think it could work.

Heheh... all right, you could have potentially had something there. :P
