Electronic Arts is reportedly planning to invest millions of dollars in a new development and support centre as it seeks to relocate work from high-cost areas like California.

The publisher is eyeing possible locations in Atlanta, Louisiana and Florida for the new studio, company spokesperson Jeff Brown told the Atlanta Business Chronicle.

The publication’s sources say the new studio could house up to 300 developers, testers and customer service reps.

Lured by a 30 per cent tax credit for qualifying companies, around 70 videogames firms currently operate in Georgia, employing up to 2,000 workers, according to the site.

“The tax credit is definitely one of the things that attracted us to Georgia,” EA’s Brown said. “If we can find an abundance of talent and a pipeline through a local university that gives us access to talent in both art and engineering, that’s where we start. The rest of it is really a cost equation.”
