A newly uncovered Microsoft patent hints that the platform holder may be developing an in-game guide/FAQ service designed to assist Xbox 360 players struggling to make progress.
Spotted by Silicon Era, the patent was filed over a year ago by Andre Vrignaud, director of games platform strategy at Microsoft. It describes a database that players could access for hints when stuck. These tips could be both user submitted and created by game developers, and feature screenshots, video clips, annotations and perhaps audio commentary.
The patent suggests that the service would utilise Xbox Live, although there’s no mention of whether it would be free or only accessible to paid subscribers.
As the site points out, this type of service could also prove popular with fans of Achievements.
Nintendo recently launched its new Super Guide system with New Super Mario Bros. Wii, which helps players who are stuck at any point during the game by showing them a video walkthrough.
Ah, that's what Gears Of War was missing the whole time - an animated paperclip.
OMG that fucking paperclip!
I wish GOW did include the paperclip so i could use the Hammer of Dawn on it.
Nintendo had patent for ingame guides a few years, I remember Miyamoto wanting to make games easier and more approachable for new gamers....
Remember when you actually had to be good at a game rather than just being dumb enough to hand over $60 for any piece of shit?
A game that anyone can beat is called a movie. We already have those and they don't cost $60.
Atleast back in the day you had to submit cheat codes to memory.
Up, Down, Left, Right, A and START together, anyone
I used to be able to recite the entire Sonic 2 debug code that you typed into the sound test menu
Microsoft is an innovative company with many original ideas.
Not.
Gold only, as usual.
A very good idea.
Sounds very much like...THE INTERNET!
