Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aimé has said that the company’s not yet “thinking seriously” about a Wii successor.
“… When the software developer comes forward with an idea that can't be executed on the current platform, that's when we start thinking seriously about the next system,” the executive told Forbes. “We're not there yet, from a Wii perspective.”
Fils-Aimé also said that Nintendo isn’t averse to working with new technology, but that its primary concern is creating unique experiences for its consumers.
“For us, technology is not an endpoint. Technology is an enabler for fantastic consumer experiences. So from a hardware standpoint, we are always looking at technology. But in the end, the technology has to enable a new, unique experience.
“So when people talk about high definition for the Wii console, our feedback is that that by itself will not create a brand new experience. Therefore, we're not interested. What we have to push for are groundbreaking new experiences. Technology has to enable it, not to be a means all by itself.”
just hurry up and make the new Zelda game already
Ha! Companies are thinking about the next generation before the current one releases. Four years in, they probably have some rough prototypes of some sort or another bouncing about the labs.
Sure, they aren't. I read: "Right now, we haven't been able to come up with a good marketing strategy in order to effectively sell a follow-up which will contain the least amount of features currently found on the models of our competitors. Also, introducing additional expansions is hard at the moment as we do not wish to make our customers feels they've been ripped off... so we will have to wait before we give them little more than they already have."
Don't get me wrong - I like some of the Nintendo games - but their statements fully equal the bullshit Microsoft and Sony are always throwing into the world.
and near 100% of business in any other sector.
I think that's a great position to take. And the longer Nintendo take to release a successor to the Wii, the more we can put off the inevitable 'Number Two' jokes...
