Subscribers are about to receive their shiny copies of the latest issue of Edge, featuring the debut of Eve Online maker CCP's FPS Dust 514. In shops on November 24.

Though Eve itself is firmly based in Iceland, Dust 514, which is set in Eve's universe, is developed by CCP's new Shanghai studio. A MMOG shooter, Dust's battlefields are absolutely tied to Eve, with Eve players' corporations hiring Dust players to fight for control of planets for them.

In other words, instead of the matchmaking being handled by heartless servers, Dust 514's action will be defined by Eve's players. And who better to try such a fascinating experiment than CCP? It is the developer which, in Eve, produced the most fascinating MMOG culture in the world.

We also travel to Scotland to play Realtime Worlds' own experiment in online FPS multiplayer, APB, and Ruffian Games' Crackdown 2. Also among the features is an interview with Shigeru Miyamoto in which we talk about his typical day at the office and how he created New Super Mario Bros Wii so that any Wii Fit player can feel right at home in it, and report on Nottingham's Gamecity event.

Previewed Epic Mickey, Just Cause 2, Aliens Vs Predator, Dead Rising 2, Dead To Rights: Retribution, Dark Void, Darksiders: Wrath Of War, Command & Conquer 4: Tiberian Twilight, Quarrel, Ace Combat Xi, Blue Toad Murder Files, Super Street Fighter IV and Metal Slug XX

Reviewed Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, Assassin's Creed II, Left 4 Dead 2, Bayonetta, The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks, Sin And Punishment: Successor To The Sky, Dragon Age: Origins, Saw, Lit, Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles, Football Manager 2010, Tropico 3 and Spaceball Revolution

You can take Edge scores with a pinch of salt! For example:

Halo - 10/10
Halo 2 - 9/10
Halo 3 - 10/10
Halo ODST - 9/10
Gears of War - 8/10
Gears of War 2 - 9/10

grognard66's picture

Anyone that would put a Shane animated gif automatically loses any claim of objectivity. Those Edge scores are consistent with scores from most reputable industry mags/websites. If these games were on PS3 you'd be complaining they're too low.

No. They just aren't very good games! Period.

Rider_on_the_Storm's picture

It's time to ditch scores at the end of reviews! They're so old hat now. Instead just give an overall verdict of the game at the end of the review, just like Gamersyde reviews.

Gamersyde reviews eat n' shit Edge.

I dont understand why you Edge haters are even on this website, if you prefer other sites/magazines reviews then visit those sites or read those magazines

Some use the news as a reason to visit Edge over other sites but if anything i find Edges news to be slow compared to gamesindustry.biz, but i personally like the writing on this site so i visit and comment here

P.S sorry 'rider' i didn't mean to post that under your comment

Poffle's picture

Well I still come here out of habit. Plus you can get some good chatter here under the comments sections. It's just when it devolves into my cock is bigger than yours arguments it gets a little annoying, with some posters more annoying than others.

The whole fanboy thing is a joke. I always thought Edge was a mature magazine compared to the other magazines in WHSmiths and so expected the website to be similar but everyone acts like a 13 year old whose Mum can only buy them one console, so they decide to hate the other available consoles. This is an assumption but we are all adults here aren't we? Adults whose passion is gaming? When I grew up I thought great, I can earn my own money, buy all the consoles and play all the games I ever wanted. Perfect! Now we have some people, and not to single you out DubTF, that have all the consoles, an Xbox Live subscription yet still need to slag Microsoft off at every opportunity. It's like that 13 year old fanboy inside never died. The Edge forum never gets bogged down in this kind of crap and as such is a much nicer place than the comment sections. Which is obviously a great shame as i don't have time for forums but would like to post here from time to time.

This site is my first port of call when I wanna read about our hobby. As pretentious and pompous the writing can be it is still a damn site better than most sites. Also, by and large the community that has developed here is pretty cool with some insightful and friendly people. The number at the end of a review doesn't bother me cause If I like the sound of a game I'll buy it anyway. To live by the review is to miss out on some underrated gems. As far as magazines go, I prefer GamesTM as it is fairly well written and not up it's own arse. But in all fairness to Edge, if it wasn't for them we would all still be reading Gamesmaster and C&VG.

SWEET I just added this to my member profile.

Plenty of room in the world for people who don't like Microsoft.

Poffle's picture

My point being, DubsTF, is that you just contradict yourself. It's like me saying i don't like Pot Noodles but I'l buy them, eat them and then go to the instant noodle websites slagging them off. If you don't like Microsoft, stop giving them your money and just ignore them, like I do with Pot Noodles.

Ben_Lathwell's picture

Even the chow mein ones? *looks shocked*.

I like the way pot noodle provide a free pot for you to eat out of unlike super noodles who expect you to buy a reticule to eat out of. But i guess super noodles are cheaper and you always have the option to not buy a bowl.

Did you see what i did there

Poffle's picture

Haha. Yes I see what you are getting at. But super noodles are prone to giving me a red ring of death if I eat too many of them!

Ben_Lathwell's picture

Fair answer. Just out of interest do you need to register seperatley for the forum as i dont seem to be able to log in?

And you are totally right about the fanboyism, i reckon youve normally got about 12 hours of a review being posted before the comments section is over run by idiots and idiot feeders

Poffle's picture

Yeah, you need a different username and password unfortunately.

Barla Von's picture

Also, why review the worst version of Dragon Age: Origins i.e. the 360/console version and not the best version the of game i.e. the PC version?

Honestly, Edge is fucked. I'm just glad the last issue i bought of the mag was 5 years ago. The mag isn't worth the paper it's printed on!

Ben_Lathwell's picture

They review the version that has the largest audience i would have thought. That way the review relates to the largest possible number of readers.

Plus there are too many variables for a decent PC review, it depends on what graphics card, sound card, processor or how much Ram you have to well the game runs.

Poffle's picture

"Honestly, Edge is fucked. I'm just glad the last issue i bought of the mag was 5 years ago. The mag isn't worth the paper it's printed on!"

Same here, well it's been about 10 years if i'm being honest. I can't handle the pretentiousness of it all. They forget games are just meant to be fun. Also the reviews generally tell you fuck all about the games. I like the website but then I was here when it was Next Gen Biz and stayed despite the name change. This place is going down hill too though with all the none stories, fanboy bait and some of the fuck wit posters. Still, it's better than most of the American sites.

I was here when it was Next Gen Biz and stayed despite the name change.

I thought the podcasts on Next Gen Biz were great. Those podcasts are definitely missed. I agree on the fanboy bait, there is too much of that shit going on in this site.

Got to laugh at Edge! What turns out to be a bad game for them today, turns out to be a fucking great game for them 5+ years later in their Time Extended feature.

Bayonetta - 10

Mystakill's picture

Based on the demo, I'd give it somewhere between 7 & 8.

Mystakill's picture

I'd love to see Future offer a reasonably-priced PDF subscription for those of us overseas. The current import price is ridiculously high. The closest thing to Edge in the U.S. is Play, which is only $17.95 per year and includes both print and digital versions.

Wall_E's picture

WTF, Bayonetta a 10, lol. Jesus, what happened to the days that only special games i.e. Mario 64, Zelda: OOT, GT, etc, got deserved perfect scores.

Now, mags just throw out perfect scores fucking willy-nilly.

WazWii's picture

I tell you what happened. Microsoft walked in with a load of cash and are funding EDGE. Simple as. They own the press and work together with EDGE. No sane person would give this game a 10. It is a complete joke; like the rest of EDGE magazine.

Ben_Lathwell's picture

Yeo that is defo exactly what happened, Bill Gates flew in by diamond encrusted jet powered by viatnamese orphans and handed the EDGE editor a big bag of gold pieces

hasan's picture

You can say that again, most games don't deserve to be mention in the same sentence get a 10....

Wall_E's picture

For me, the only game that deserves a 10 this gen (so far) is Super Mario Galaxy. And maybe, just maybe, Uncharted 2.

squarepusher's picture

Bayonetta got a 10 out of 10 by the way.

quietIdentity's picture

Hey sup Commander Shepp... What? Dust 514? Sooo, Bioware are selling their character models whole sale now.... Interesting. Nathan Drake and Commander Sheppard should hang out sometime I reckon.

Ben_Lathwell's picture

I dont know why there is so much fuss made over Shepperd's appearance, my Shepperd looked fuck all like this geezer

Gavin.Stuart's picture

Dear lord. Did CCP set out to come up with concept art that's indistinguishable from Mass Effect's? It is a nice cover though.

Looking forward to the Sin & Punishment review. My Wii is seeing a lot more action recently, hopefully this'll continue the trend.

Aionic_Kid's picture

I own every issue but for a couple and honestly I think this is EDGE's best time as a magazine, mostly for the huge amount of information, less ads and top design that doesn't mess with content (this is important as design is a vehicle for information, not the other way around; many magazines are slaves to their format and sections structure).

The only things I'm ocasionally angry about is when a review comes with no gameplay screenshots. Personally I hate non-gameplay screens, for me they contain zero information and are just a marketing tool that actually tells nothing about a game. I know EDGE agree with me because from the beginning they have faced the problem of shots that actually reflect gameplay, as opposed to mass media that don't consider videogames a mature enough media and always show FMV or pre-rendered art.

I also love the way EDGE does previews, they're still (even more) interesting to read after the game has come out because it's not hype nor marketing info, but actual problems the developers are facing in the process, their personal aims and limitations, etc.

I also wished there wasn't the fear of more theoretical or even philosophical approches every once in a while. I'm not talking about psychology or emotions, but of pure philosophy, ways of managing space and time in games, etc.

Overall this is my favorite magazine, and I'm the kind of person that loves good magazines even more more than good videogames.
