The social networking game maker behind Mobsters and Sonority Life raises large sum in venture capital funding round.

Following EA's recent acquisition of Playfish, the developer raised US$43 million based on a pre-funding valuation of US$260, reports Techcrunch. The investors were New Enterprise Associates, Playdom chairman and co-founder Rick Thompson, Lightspeed Venture Partners and Norwest Venture Partners.

Of the big three social network developers (with Playfish and Zynga) Playdom has the greatest focus on MySpace, with the site contributing around 60 per cent of its traffic and hosting 12 of Playdom's games, compared to six on Facebook.

The company was sued by Zynga in September for misappropriating trade secrets, and employs ex-Infocom developer Steve Meretzky as vice president of game design.
