It emerged yesterday that an advert had appeared in the UK press for a third party LittleBigPlanet peripheral pack which listed PSP 4000 as a compatible platform. The company who placed the advert has since issued a statement saying it was a mistake.

The advert appeared in issue 568 of trade publication MCV and was placed there by Accessories4Technology. The foot of the page listed compatible PSP models the product was compatible with, including an unannounced PSP 4000 model.

Accessories4Gamers has since held its hands up with spokeswoman Angela Jones telling NegativeGamer the ad was simply "a mistake on our part", adding she didn't know how the error came to be and had no knowledge of Sony releasing a new PSP.

Analysts have previously said that Sony putting out another model of PSP - speculated to be a PSPgo with a UMD drive - is highly likely. “I think it is possible and likely that the PSP-4000 will support UMD, and I think that Sony will support whichever formats make it the most money,” Wedbush Securities analyst Michael Pachter recently told us.

It wasn't a mistake they were trying to preempt the announcement of a new psp go. Since this one has been a disaster and Sony said they'd continue to support UMDs, It's hardly a long mental journey to get to the psp 4000 as prediction.

an analyst talking sense, surely the world will implode

Not least because Sony said they'd continue to support UMD when they launched the PSP Go. I'm really confused why that quote from Patcher is added to every PSP story of this nature like it's some sort of miraculous insight into the future.
