Texas-based Bareis Technologies has filed a lawsuit against a number of games firms for allegedly violating a 13 year-old voice recognition technology patent.

Sony Computer Entertainment America, Ubisoft, EA and Disney Interactive Studios are named as defendants in the suit.

The SOCOM, Rainbow Six, EndWar, Ghost Recon and NASCAR franchises, as well as Disney's Phonics Quest, are said to have infringed upon the patent, which covers the integration of “automatic speech recognition technologies into optical disk players for command and control purposes", reports GamePolitics.

The plaintiff is seeking a jury trial and “all damages caused by the infringement of the ‘407 patent, which by statute can be no less than a reasonable royalty”.

Some of these games are very old. Surely this is an example of them not having protected their patent?
